One of Connecticut's most sophisticated emergency facilities, the Emergency Department (ED) at Johnson Memorial Hospital (JMH) offers the most modern medical and communication technology available.
- 14 exam rooms
- 6 observation units
- 6 ED Express rooms
- 2 trauma rooms
- 5 behavioral health rooms
- Separate treatment areas for critically injured patients and those with non-life-threatening conditions
- Special rooms to accommodate the unique needs of women, children, stroke and heart attack victims, psychiatric patients and sexual assault victims
- Electronic records with patient tracking
Patients arriving through the ED's guest entrance are immediately greeted and brought into triage for assessment. Based on this evaluation, the triage nurse then escorts the patient to an examination room in the appropriate area. Registration is completed at bedside after the patient has been medically screened. Those arriving by ambulance are brought in through a separate entrance and treated by staff members dedicated to patients with urgent needs. A sophisticated electronic patient-monitoring system enables staff members to track patient management and lab results.
JMH's physicians and physician assistants have joined a larger group of providers, Northeast Emergency Medicine Specialists (NEMS). NEMS is a local, private-practice group that provides clinical staffing to Emergency Rooms. Like the hospital, NEMS is focused on high-quality patient care and ensuring patients are cared for as quickly as possible in an emergency. Because of this - and the fact that our clinicians will remain in the ER - community members should expect same patient-focused care they have come to expect.
